Εκκλησία και Aκαδημία
(Ekklesia and Akademia)
Politics and Philosophy were the heart of ancient Greek culture. Students in the Polis Experience: Ekklesia and Akademia will launch the Greek Day events as Greek political leaders, warriors, philosophers, musicians and poets. Students will act out leadership roles, guiding other Greeks in the opening ceremony of Greek Day. This will include a theater-like performance of open argument and debate.
Students should be able to act boldly in front of others (though we need some students to just stand and act cool). You will have to do some writing of their own parts for the performance as well as create props and other items. You must be a team player to be in this group.
Before Greek Day
You will be working with your group to write a play for the opening ceremony.
You will construct props to be used during the Greek Day performance.
On Greek Day
You will act out the opening ceremony for Greek Day in the form of a play.
You will lead other Greeks in a democratic vote (on a topic to remain secret until GD).
You will end Greek Day events with a closing ritual.
