Materials: Shields can be made of any material. Cardboard or foam core board is the most common. They have also been made from wood, metal, garbage can lids, plastic, paper mache', and plastic serving trays.
Shape: Many are round, but your shield can take on any form that you choose.
Technical issue. Make sure you include some way to hold your shield from behind.
Creativity is encouraged and spending lots of money is discouraged.

- An Identification of whose shield you are representing. Example: the name Athena, or a capital A, or a picture of her
- 5 different things that represent the character you have chosen. Example: Athena could include: a dove, a war helmet, Medusa's Head, an olive branch, and an owl. If you are doing a hero or a famous Greek then you have to think about what they did in their life and symbolize it for yourself. For example Odysseus designed the Trojan Horse and killed the cyclops
- All of the ideas should be reflected in your research. When your teacher reads your research notes they should see references to the ideas or symbols that were added to your shield
